2023-24

On Monday 1st July we held our annual sports day. A fabulous day was had by all! Well done to Blenheim who just stole the lead!

On 17th June the NED show came to school. NED stands for:

On the 28th March FOSTAS arranged for the Easter Bunny to visit St Andrew's - and the Easter trail was a huge success!

On 14th March we celebrated a delayed World book day with a visit from author, Jame Mayhew. He worked with every year group sharing stories and creating artwork to go with them. Year 6 had the chance to create their own artwork inspired by his stories and music.

    

On the 16th February the Circle of Friends Leaders organised and ran an inter-house board games tournament. Huge congratulations to Lancaster who were the winners!

      

On Thursday 15th February some children from year 5&6 participated in the first ever EFSLIP Public Speaking Competetion at Moreton Primary School. It was a wonderful event with children from across the partnership displaying courage and confidence to give amazing speeches about Global concerns. Well done to the team - coming away with the winners trophy!

 

Monday 13th November was Odd Socks Day - we all wore odd socks to stand up to bullying. We may all be different, but we all desreve compassion and kindness.

    

                

 

On the 4th November FOSTAS and the 3rd North Weald Scouts hosted a wonderful Fireworks night on the school field.

    

 

Mrs Mint took Cailan and Olivia to the Healthy Svhools awards where we picked up our award for our latest Healthy Schools Project

    

 

 

2022-23

Year 3&4 were transported to the Stone Age on the 2nd and 3rd of July. They experienced how stone age people lived and were trained as Iron age Warriors! For many children this was their first ever night away from home, and they thoroughly enjoyed their night in the roundhouses!

 

 

On Tuesday 16th May Bishop Lynne (The Bishop of Barking) came to visit us to formally open our new sensory garden. She spoke to the children in assembly about what a Bishop did and then the Worship council joined her in the sensory garden to carry out a blessing.

          

 

MEDIA RELEASE Issued: January 12, 2023 Primary school children get involved with tree planting project North Weald Bassett Parish Council has been working closely with Essex County Council’s Senior Forestry and Woodland Officer to create a new woodland area at Weald Common. More than 2,400 trees have now been planted on the field adjacent to the Weald Common access road. Native species such as willow, poplar, hazel, alder, hawthorn, sweet chestnut and oak have been sourced. The area has been divided into three planting compartments with specific species chosen for each area to ensure they are planted in the right place for the conditions. It is hoped the new woodland will enhance the biodiversity in this important location. The well-trodden pathways that cross the field have been used as a planting guide and continue to allow access for walkers. The parish council was keen to involve St Andrew’s Primary School Community with the exciting project and, following a meeting with deputy headteacher Benjamin Sharp, the school’s Eco-Warrior Group were invited to get involved with the final planting of 40 trees. The Eco-Warriors visited Weald Common on Monday (January 9) to plant a selection of different whips under the guidance of the parish council’s contractors. Parish council chairman councillor Alan Buckley thanked the group for their help and said they were helping to create a lasting legacy for future generations. He said he hoped the children would enjoy seeing the trees grow over the coming months and years. Deputy headteacher Benjamin Sharp said: “It was great to see the children so excited to go and tell other children about the project when they got back to school and to hear the children discussing how they can watch the trees grow over many years to come. "The project is going to bring so much to these children and I’m sure their families in the future." The parish council intends to install a plaque to mark the location where the children planted the trees. Further enhancements to the project will be taking place over the next few months and the parish council hopes to enlist additional help from the Eco-Warriors.            Eco-Warriors from St Andrew's Primary School get involved with the tree planting.

An amazing talent show this afternoon for Children in Need!

Year 1 and 2 visited Stansted Aerozone

Ash, Hornbeam and Rowan all took turns to visit Stansted Aerozone and had an amazing time there. They were visited by the airport fire service, got a chance to sit in the engine and had a go at using the fire hoses. They visited the viewing platform to watch the aircraft take-off and land—whilst waving to the aircraft the pilot opened his window to wave to Rowan class! They had a chance to experience a flight simulator—which was very tricky! They carried out some experiments about air-resistance and got a chance to dress up in the uniforms used by the cabin crew. Lime class now cannot wait for their turn!

    

     

First trip of 2022-23

Year 6 visited Horsted and had lots of fun doing a variety of activities!

 

The Reading club visited the science exhibition based on the books they have been reviewing.

Our eco warriors visited the Tower of London Superbloom after planting our own superbloom at school.

 

We were deligted to have a visit from Paralympian Richard Chiassaro (23rd June 2022), who shared his training regime and talked about how it is important to never give up. Everyopne also got a chance to see the medals he has earnt at the European and World championships.

     

On Wednesday 4th May the choir attended the Epping church school's singing event at Epping St John's Church. It was a wonderful afternoon.

 

On a wet and windy March day 10 lucky participants from year 5&6 ventured out to the Nuclear Races. They had an absolutely brilliant day!

 Wednesday 26th January was Kawasaki Awareness day.

Year 1 and 6 and 2 and 5 led our Christingle service at St Andrew's Church. We collected money for the Children's society. 

We had a special day of celebration for St Andrew. Year 1 and 2 visited St Andrew's Church with Revd. Jaimee and then took part in Scottish country dancing. KS2 swapped teachers throughout the day, learning about our school shield, school history, the story of St Andrew and some key parables which include St Andrew. 

For our 2 minute silence on remembrance day Year 1 made their own poppy garden.

 

On Monday 11th we celebrated #HelloYellow day to raise awareness for Young Minds.

Year 3 and 4 led our harvest service at St Andrew's church. We collected food for our local food bank and learnt about the work they do in an assembly. 

On Friday 8th October year 5&6 had a wonderful day at Hampton Court, visiting the chapel described in 'Treason' by Berlie Dougherty - which they are using in their English lessons.

A wonderful school project for the art exhibition put together by the Epping Forest ministry team, focussing on loss and recovery during the pandemic. A huge thank you to Miss Burns for organising this, and to Mrs Mercer for helping put it together!

 

Year 6 had a great week at Horstead activity centre. They stopped off at Norwich Cathedral to visit Dippy the Dinosaur and had a day out at Sheringham Park lerarning survival skills.
